You'll work from Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, rotating between UPMC St. Margaret and East based on the workload (1:1 split). Enjoy a balanced work-life- no on-call duties, weekends, or holidays required. In this position, you will engage in special projects and conferences, manage staining and cytopreparatory procedures, and ensure our equipment remains in excellent condition. You'll also have opportunities to temporarily supervise the section/department, stay updated with the latest cytologic criteria, and assist in specimen collection. Responsibilities:

    \n
  • Assist with special projects and conferences.
  • \n
  • Fulfill customer needs according to UPMC Health System philosophy.
  • \n
  • Oversee and assist with staining and cytopreparatory procedures.
  • \n
  • Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on equipment.
  • \n
  • Temporarily supervise the section/department as needed.
  • \n
  • Stay updated on cytologic criteria and developments.
  • \n
  • Assist with specimen collection and cytopreparation.
  • \n
  • Evaluate cell samples and render diagnoses for Pathologist review.
  • \n
  • Interact professionally with laboratory customers and respond to inquiries.
  • \n
  • Enter diagnoses in the Pathology Information System and sign out negative Pap tests.
  • \n
  • Train and orient new employees, students, and residents.
  • \n
  • Correlate clinical history with current and previous specimens.
  • \n
  • Perform final sign out of diagnoses on Pap tests.
  • \n
  • Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies.
  • \n
  • Identify and address problems with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results.
  • \n

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university required.
  • \n
  • Successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Cytology program required;
  • \n
  • OR equivalent education and experience.
  • \n
  • 1-2 years experience as a Cytologist preferred.
  • \n
  • Pathology Information System experience preferred.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Cytologist (CT (ASCP)) certification or registry eligible is required. If registry eligible, successful completion of the ASCP registry exam is required within 18 months from date of hire
